I create portrait art that combines drawing and knitting with digital tools.
Hi my name is Faith Humphrey Hill and I’m a full time artist located in Oak Park, IL. My artwork provides an optimistic view of technologies role in shaping our identity and relationships with each other.
The piece Mobispect on exhibit at the Beverly Art Center embraces these themes. I’ve presented a knit animation featuring rotating faces. They are separate people but are connected by the everflowing yarn between them. The animation is exhibited as one long knitted film strip beside an immersive exhibition space where the animation can be seen.
My work often deals with themes of connection between people. Making the Connect Residency a perfect fit for my practice. The most valuable part of the experience was the opportunity to learn from the guest speakers, the Fellows, Hollie Davis, and the other participating artists. Through the experience, I gained practical art business advice, new perspectives, and a long list of amazing artists who I know I can contact in the future with any questions or problems I stumble into.
In addition to the Beverly Art Center my work can be seen this summer at The 11th International Fiber Art exhibition Scythia in the Ukraine, Fiber Art International at the Museum of Art Fort Collins, Transformative Craft at the Susquehanna Art Museum in Pennsylvania and in the next issue of Handwerken Zonder Grenzen magazine in the Netherlands.
