Russian writer Ivan Okhlobystin speaking on a conference in the presence of Aleksandr Dugin and Konstantin Malofeev quite openly declares that Russia's goals aren't limited to Ukraine: "Russia is an empire, and any empire strives for expansion. And there will be no rest for us until Russia establishes its protectorate over the entire planet. This mission was entrusted to us by God himself, along with the Byzantine coat of arms and the greatness of the third Rome. That is why we are called the God-bearing people." While many people, including inside Russia, describe such statements as lunacy, ISIS serves an example that you don't need such an ambitious goal to be realistic in order to create a significant threat for the world's peace - it's sufficient to have a fanatical and determined actor who will be striving to achieve it.
