On 18 March 2025 some channels published UAV videos of a small gas leak fire on "Sudzha" gas metering station which, contrary to its name, is not located in the town of Sudzha but on the Ukraine-Russia border. On the evening of 20 March a large gas explosion and subsequent fire took place on the same location, which was visible from even towns like Sumy and Kursk. Russian channels rejoiced this as "something serious arrived to the enemy positions" as the gas pumping station is still in Ukrainian zone of control. On the following morning Russian media started blaming Ukraine for "shelling the gas metering station to disrupt gas supplies to EU", ignoring the fact that it's still controlled by Ukraine and the gas supplies already stopped on 1 January, which allowed Russian army to use the pipeline as a tunnel to get into Sudzha two weeks earlier.
