Highlight from three week cycling trip summer 2024

I did a three week cycling tour in central Europe in the summer of 2024. This was my first, and it was super! Unfortunately my plans to take more video throughout the trip failed due to a combination of an obnoxious amount of rain and an action camera with no water proof case. Also the camera battery was shittier than I had tested it to be, and I just didn't manage to charge it often enough.

When I unpacked the video at home I was faced with another problem. I really don't have time to go through and edit hours and hours of video. I kind of just let the files sit on my disk until now, when I finally decided to find a way to compile some kind of highlight of the files. My new camera Cycliq app highlight reel feature kind of gave me the idea of finding a way to randomly rip out a small section of each file and combine them into one file.

A random script from github (https://gist.github.com/lucasnegrao/90edae82fb3ce898d73e4d2976842a4e) to the rescue, and here we are, a randomized selection of 10 second clips from between 3rd of June in France, through Luxembourg and arriving to Belgium on the 9th of June. For the whole trip, if interested, you can find a recap at https://jasonrobinson.me/content/12550766/cycling-trip-recap-phew-home-approx-three-weeks/

Regarding future trips, now that I have the Cycliq always-on camera, I think it will be somewhat easier to just include the interesting parts as it has a button to save the current video clip, instead of needing to switch the camera on and off. The battery life is also way better and it's waterproof. Still of course will need to edit things down into a highlight, I'm thinking some combination of randomizing clips and then editing in some important ones may be the way.
