A small drama unrolled among Russian military bloggers from competing channels after Ukrainian attacks on Russia-controlled former gas drilling platforms in Black Sea, so called Boyko towers. In total, there's four such platforms - "Tavrida", "Sivash", "Krym-1" and "Krym-2" - which were captured by Russia in 2014 after illegal annexation of Crimea. Since then they were mostly serving as naval surveillance platforms, hosting Russian radars and SIGINT equipment, which required periodic maintenance by highly qualified personnel. One of the major steps in Ukrainian counteroffensive on the Black Sea after 2023 was targeting these platforms, destroying Russian intelligence capabilities - these had to be restored, so Ukrainian targeted the repair teams and so on. Sophistication of Ukrainian attacks is increasing and on 3 May they even managed to shoot down Russian Su-30SM fighter jet using an anti-air missile fired from a remotely controlled naval drone.
After another such attack on 6-7 June, Russian neo-Nazi unit "Española" decided to shoot a PR video flexing with their crews on 03160 Raptor-class boats and even hitting some FPV drones into old and long-disused satellite TV antennas installed on the platforms since they were still populated by gas mining crews before the war. "Espanola" built a whole dramatic narrative in which Ukrainian GUR was apparently still present on the platforms, the old antennas were some mysterious "communications equipment" and they - the Russians - heroically destroyed them. The videos were apparently sponsored by a prominent Russian "Two Mayors" channel, whose logo was prominently displayed on all these movies.
This was too much other Russian military channels, two of which - Romanov and "Osvedomitel" - ridiculed the PR stunt and criticised it as pointless risking of lives of highly qualified Russian military personnel and making them an easy target for Ukrainian naval drones, which were filmed circling around the towers. "Española" did what they can do best and "invited" Romanov for a "friendly visit" to their headquarters, where he had a chance to present a rather miserable apology for his "misinformation" and assure everyone of his endless respect for the neo-Nazis.
