Fedora was one of the the first distros I tried 16 years ago and and it is right to think of it as one of the 'Big Beasts' of the Linux world. So it seemed only right to give the Mate Edition a spin and see how the latest release looks.
Yes I know Gnome is the default, but my preferred DE is Mate so I wanted to see how it compared to the likes of Ubuntu Mate.
My conclusions? Solid and reliable, but ultimately nothing special. It comes with zram configured out of the box, uses the BTRFS file system by default and, although non-free packages are not installed by default, they are easy enough to add through the rpmfusion repo.
I just felt that it was a little on the sluggish side compared to the likes of Mint and Ubuntu, but perhaps I should have installed the flagship Gnome versions. Or maybe not :-)
