An update on Edward Teddy… His mum was hit and killed by a car on Monday, and he came to me on Tuesday but had a femur fracture. I had it x-rayed and started searching for vets to discuss the x-rays with for a prognosis.

We must have spoken to at least eight vet practices, some orthopaedic surgeons or experienced wildlife vets or vets with some experience in x-rays, but not in wildlife per sè. The feedback was split down the middle. Some said it’s a no-go, would be hard to fix and if you fix it, he would be crippled and it would be cruel.

Some said it can be fixed but no guarantees. So where does this leave me? I am an experienced carer and I have a good gut instinct, but I’m not a vet.

It’s now up to me to unpick the advice from vets to decide on the best course of action. Unfortunately, there is no clear one way or the other. It’s sort of in the middle dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t.

But even though I thought this would be the end, because I just didn’t feel it was in his best interest to continue down this path, at the last minute I found an amazing vet who allayed all those fears.

He is incredibly experienced including Wildlife and have done these operations many times before. He is humble and kind and was willing to talk to me himself (which is what is what we need) and take me through the procedure and answer all my questions.

He completed the surgery tonight and little Eddie Teddy has woken up and is doing well. I will post on his progress later as this was a five hour round trip to get to him to the vets

Video is of this morning feeding him some grass as he is very frustrated by not being allowed to move too much
