One of the strangest parts of advocating for more walkable, bike-friendly, transit-oriented cities is constantly being accused of wanting to ban cars or saying that no one should ever drive. Things like: “my grandmother delivers fridges for a living, how do you expect her to do that on a bus?”
I’ve always seen this as an expression of car-culture, a hyperbolic scream that if you don’t give cars everything then you’d might as well be banning them. But recently I’ve been hearing more urbanists say “I do want to ban cars” so in this video I want to look at the question in detail.
