It’s so important as artists that we allow our selves to explore art with curiosity and freedom. Sometimes we get the urge to create outside the zone we’re known for or we’ve come to identify ourselves as. Early in my journey it was hard for me accept that I enjoyed knitting. Every-time I sat down to knit a sweater or socks I’d feel guilty for not working on the portrait drawings I was destined to make as an artist. However it totally worked out for me because feeding the urge to knit lead to new connections and ideas. And eventually mixed media art was the result. I do a bit of mediating in the morning and recently reflecting on a session about creativity it became clear that if we keep doing the exact same thing every time our brains just network through the same mental highways. They start to be routine. Every once in a while it’s good to hop off and explore a new area and further build out our mental map. So with that I present to you a drawing of a squirrel. I wanted to make this with all I’ve said already but also because squirrels and urban wildlife are sort of ignored. They’re common we see them everywhere but if we stop and pay attention to them they can be quite cute, interesting, and even relatable. It’s still a portrait but different than my typical people portraits. If you’re feeling creative guilt please know you're not alone we all go through it and know its not just ok but encouraged to explore those interests knowing that all these experiences are additive and will only help you create better and more interesting art. My work provides an optimistic view of technology’s role in shaping our identity and relationships with each other. The subjects are strangers to me, just as they are to the viewer of the finished work. Being a visual artist, I use my eyes to learn about the person, and in the process find commonalities between us. Knitting (a form of binary code) is included because of its continuous flow of fibers that mirrors our interconnectedness as people. These pieces are created using new and old machines. Incorporating technology in the process reflects my life with metal implants; as I am a balance between organic and inorganic so should my art. #drawing #art #knitting #digitalart #digitalartforbeginners #artandcraft #artist #speedpaint #drawwithme #letsdraw #chill #relaxing #artprocess #digitaldrawingtutorial #portraitart #portraitartist #portraitdrawing #procreate
