(dis)robe: MaternityWear -- artist Emily van Lidth de Jeude

Maternity Wear is part of Emily van Lidth de Jeude's (dis)robe series, that explores cultural values and women's experiences through the medium of reclaimed, altered clothing. The model for this video was Jewal Maxwell, at the time separated from her child, and who sadly died in the years following this photoshoot. She wanted very much to be the face of this maternity image. Sound credit: Baby Crying, from Pixabay, and audio recording from the MAMA Project by Emily van Lidth de Jeude. ALT: A heap of babies crawls up the back of the enormous, heavy, reclaimed wedding gown, reaching for one of the many reclaimed pacifiers that are suspended from ribbons around the dress. From the belly, a screaming face escapes, and... for practical reasons, the gown includes a built-in baby carrier on the back! See more of the (dis)robe series at https://emilyartist.ca
