A wearable art piece by Emily van Lidth de Jeude, made with photos of over 300 people with Long Covid, and some of the 200+ symptoms we live with. The hands at the beginning of the train are drawn from my son Taliesin's hands. You also hear his hands playing piano: my comfort music. When my Long Covid was at its worst, he would gently push me from behind to help me walk. No children should grow up caring for their parents, but many do, and many now care for their parents who live with Long Covid, even when they, themselves, are living with it too. Hospital gown and blanket, wheelchair and bed sheets were donated, used.
According to current research, over 65 million people worldwide are living with disability caused by Long Covid. Some have died including two whose photos are on this gown. While research is happening, it's slow, and many medical professionals are dismissive of patients' needs and experience. The purpose of this wearable art project is to create awareness and space for our stories to be heard.
