I've had this one sitting on my computer for a while, but wasn't confident in it enough to upload it because of the volume level fluctuation for some of the instruments. Since I've been inactive for so long though, I wanted to post something. Plus, I really love this thing! :-)
I had a lot of fun putting my own spin on this song. Doki Doki Literature Club holds a special place in my heart, and this song in particular. Super Mario 64 also holds a special place in my heart, because it was a huge part of my childhood. I wanted to make this cover perfect.
Let's talk about the video part a little bit. I didn't know what I should do for the video, so I decided to make the first half about me going through the poem section of DDLC, and the second half about me trying to play through Dire Dire Docks in SM64. Of course, since I'm visually impaired and can't exactly see where I'm going, I couldn't even get into the castle. I also wanted to fade between the two halves of the video, but I don't think Reaper's simple video editor can do that, so it's just a simple jump cut. Sorry about that.
DDLC is made in a visual novel engine called Ren'Py. Ren'Py has built-in accessibility features, which allows me to play DDLC and enjoy most of the content. I can't enjoy the special poems because those are pictures and not text drawn on the screen, and I can't appreciate any of the visual horror elements, but I can still enjoy a majority of the game nonetheless. I wanted to pick Sayori's favorite words only, but truth be told, I haven't played DDLC in a while, so I'm not sure how well I was able to pull it off since I forgot some of the word preferences. I'm told the characters bounce up and down when you pick their favorite words, but since I can't see that, I don't know how well I did. Feel free to ridicule or praise me in the comment section. :-)
Through trial and error, I learned that I can sometimes rely upon SM64's sound panning elements to find my way to the castle. Unfortunately, it's hit and miss. This time, it was a miss, as you can see. I thought keeping the sound of the water to my left and moving forward would help me get into the castle, but it didn't. At that point, I just started wandering about trying to jump over what I'm guessing to be walls and hitting things for the remainder of the video. Of course, you won't be able to hear these things because I muted the game audio so you could listen to the song, but you'll get the picture if you can see. If you can't see, hopefully my explanations helped you get the gist of the video. If my explanations weren't helpful, well... just enjoy the song! :-)
