In the beginning of April 2025 Russian army conducted an assault on Novopavlivka in Donetsk oblast' in a classic armoured column formation, which was almost entirely destroyed by the Ukrainian defenders using artillery and cluster munitions. Column assaults are rare specifically due to such formation's vulnerability to attacks on the first and last vehicles which, with limited ability to bypass the damaged units, result in gradual destruction of the vehicles in the middle.
