Tonight was a short practice session, limited to a bit of slow funk in the same spirit as yesterday, and two pages from the book Beyond Bop Drumming. After some work on the comping exercises in 3 voices, I started to work on a transcription of a Jack DeJohnette solo from his recording Pictures. Compared to the piece, the tempo is about twice smaller, and DeJohnette adds variations on the ride cymbal (which the book says not to do, because the goal for the moment is to practice on the melody on left hand and two feet).
