Data Morgana episode 2: Journalism & big tech

time4 mo agoview29 views

In this episode, we talk about news and media. Because smartphones and social media have totally changed the way we get news to us. Many people, especially young people, only see the news through Instagram, X or TikTok. But there, algorithms determine who gets to see what and what not. What does that do to our shared reality? How do we distinguish news from fake news, opinions, ads and sponsored content?

Important questions, because meanwhile Meta decides to stop fact-checking and cut down on moderating. X has been doing that for some time. What does this mean for the media landscape? And how do you navigate through it?
