Conquering the World (Eddie Biggins)

We were going to be the greatest We knew we’d have it all Newport in the summertime And Palm Beach in the fall We were wide-eyed with ambition Each one set upon a mission Apart or together Hell-bent for leather On conquering the world

I was going to be a rock star Surrounded by my fans She would be an artist At least those were the plans People told us we were being Unrealistic and unseeing But we kept ourselves going All the while knowing We’d be conquering the world

But then we graduated college Full of alcohol and knowledge And as the real world took its toll Gave up the fight No brass rings or other treasures We settled for simpler pleasures Yes it looked as though the skeptics Were proven right

So I never became a rock star That dream did not come true Fate had other plans for us So what were we to do? The ideas we were embracing Wound up dead ‘cause life was placing A discouraging hand on The things that we’d planned on Like conquering the world
