Collecting Wild (Arnica)+ Rock Garden Seed to Scatter

time1 yr agoview4 views

Arnica chamissonis is a wildflower in the Sunflower Family (Asteraceae), attractive, good for pollinators, with medicinal uses ( I haven't used it this way- always carefully research methods and be sure of identification and that the plant has a stable population before using any plants). You'd want to be careful with it in a garden setting, since it can spread by root and seed. I collected a few seeds from some plants in the roadside ditch just outside the acreage to scatter in a marginal area on the acreage where I've been building up the soil, allowing native plants to grow on their own, also scattering various seed of natives and non-natives and occasionally planting things that need to be moved from elsewhere. Since I was at it, I gathered seed from a few things in one of the rock gardens as well and scattered it all together. This method has a low success rate, but also minimal effort involved, so I thought I'd chance a few minutes work!
