well this silly thing has been a long time coming! i started this back on March 9th, not expecting to get anywhere with it honestly. i knew i wanted to cover a Lemon Demon song sooner or later but which one i didn't know and i never thought it'd be this one, haha. i don't even remember how the idea popped into my head, i just decided on it one day. and it only took me three months!! in reality though, i've been working on original music and trying to structure my unfinished songs into an EP while also writing new ones that might appear on that release. or not, who knows, maybe i'll save them for the next EP. i've also been doing a couple of smaller cover songs to keep my creative juices flowing, but nothing that's worthy of a standalone release like this one is. i'm quite proud of it, especially the bass guitar because wow, i can play it, but i'm not great and playing that fast can kill your wrist and arm. the bass you hear was recorded in three parts. you might be able to notice when it switches from one track to the other. even then, the takes aren't perfect, but i don't mind that. the original song wasn't perfect by any means, and it's mistakes and intricacies that give music character. to me, as least. it's my fault for bringing the song to a higher bpm then it already was to make it even more hyper, making the bass and vocals way harder on myself in the process. i'm really proud of how i managed to slip a part of New Way Out into this track. i don't remember exactly, but i think i was listening to that song one day, perhaps shortly after working on this cover, and noticed the similar progression and key. i thought covering two songs in one would be cool, so i modified those lyrics too and boom, New Way Out inside Party on the Moon. i also TRIED to squeeze in another reference when i sing "i'm sure it'll be fine", but although the notes sung imitate the hook in Fine, the timing of said notes to fit the rhythm makes the attempt much less evident. oh well. i scrapped a call-and-response idea after the "boots are untied" line, with a background layer of me saying "and so is your safety rope?" followed by "grab him! he's floating away!" or something like that. it felt shoehorned and kind of brought a sense of danger into such a lighthearted song. no need for a buzzkill, it's a party on the moon for goodness sake. let loose! do a minute long back flip or something!

i want to thank Zilluzion once again for creating the beautiful and adorable art for this song! being a big Lemon Demon fan themself, they were ecstatic to do it, and you know they absolutely knocked it out of the park. the two goofballs featured alongside me are my boyfriend, Louis, realizing he needs to superglue his laces*, and Edan, our mutual best friend who completes the trio of dorkuses. dorkusi? go figure. they're way too happy to be there, if such a thing is possible. yes, we are all wearing fishbowls. yes, Skyler is distracted by the fish because he is cat. yes, i specifically asked for that detail. and yes, it's fun to pronounce "fish" as "feesh". try it sometime. the red guitar is modeled after the real guitar i play on the song, my favorite instrument i own, and it's somehow an even more cherry red in person. it's nothing amazing (i want to get new pickups for it to make it better) but is so much fun to play and record and it's so pretty and gosh i love it so much. wonderful to see it immortalized here. Louis' tail was accidentally drawn as a cat tail because i forgot to inform Zilluzion that he is, in fact, a fox. i kept the original version of the art and decided to slowwwwly crossfade between the two throughout the video, just for fun. both come with the download, along with the other variations of the art that they gave me as we ironed out little details, because maybe someone else is as interested in that kind of thing as i am. also, it took around five hours after they sent me the piece to notice the cloud badges on our arms and i almost squeeed when i did! Zilluzion just threw in that absolutely precious detail and i don't know why but it's one of my favorite parts of the art now!

*i am aware that real space boots are not fastened with something as simple as laces, but shaddup.
