Anthony Horowitz, novelist and screenwriter, is best known for adventure and mystery ('Alex Rider' books, 'Foyle's War', etc). But for 'Crime Traveller' (1997) he combined his penchant for crime stories with science-fiction. The show posited a time machine that could travel back for a few hours to help solve murders. The sci-fi elements were carefully constructed, with a detailed set of time travel rules maintained throughout the eight episodes. Unfortunately a change in BBC execs somehow caused this fairly successful show to be overlooked at renewal time. The theme music is by Anne Dudley, a versatile composer responsible for 'Poldark', 'The Tenth Kingdom', and 'The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries'.
