Class 47 is taken from the album 'Digressions', available exclusively though the Werra Foxma Sub Club (https://wfrsubclub.bandcamp.com)
My original list of possible tracks for the album had a long tune based on a field recording of my commute on the Adelaide Metro from when I worked in South Australia for a while. I wasn’t comfortable with how it sat in the track listing, so pulled it (The track has since been released as part of an EP I put out in august 2022 - you can find that here on Bandcamp at https://gribbles.bandcamp.com/album/australia-ep-1-adelaide ). But I liked the idea of having a train song. I was browsing old snippets and loops and I came across one with the arpeggiated baseline and modular rhythm you can hear in the finished song. Because I has trains in my head, this jumped out at me - and the other bits accreted around it over the course of one weekend - this came together quite quickly. One of the very few times where I’ve aimed for a feeling/theme and hit it full on. Blue and yellow diesel engines passing along the tracks at the top of the school field. Sitting dozing in a carriage as a teen on my way to Lincoln. Dabbling with train spotting. The later lead lines in this were a deliberate play on train horns. And there’s a little train related aural easter egg that pops up a couple of times…
The train videos were used with the very kind permission of Allan Tebbs - do pop over and visit his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfxJeUqHvuywUc2cLmXFtew
