Demonstrating the game I was given for my birthday, Carrooka, the brain-child of master carpenter Jack Furnival - a passionate socialist who wants nothing more than for the world to become a more equal and happier place.
Jack and his wife George believe it’s important to make as small a footprint on the planet as possible. They also strive to live without ever exploiting others. These two principles guide the way Carrooka is made: • All timber is FSC approved from carefully managed sources. • If they have to source parts from overseas, it’s because they cannot find a local supplier. They ask all suppliers whether they meet ethical base code standards. • they use low-impact water based inks to print the board surface which is kinder to the environment than oil based dyes. • The boards are plastic free and posted in plastic free packaging. • Boards are made by Jack and George, who strive to one day earn a living wage! • It’s a business done by bicycle wherever possible. • They always put a jumper on, before thinking about putting the heating on.
