Māra or Great Mother, one of the primal earth goddesses in the Latvian tradition (her origins a bit complicated, I talk about it in several blog posts) is celebrated four times a year. The cross-quarter day between Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox- Summer Māras is one of them. The exact date of the cross-quarter may be between the 6th and 12th of August, the celebrations in various traditions taking place from the 1st to 15th (the latter date conflated with celebrations for the Virgin Mary- or was her date designed to match the earlier goddess observances?).
Anyway, I'm working on a blog post again, to bring together several videos and photos- I went for a short walk in the bush on the farm, watched the flowers and pollinators in the late summer garden, snacked on berries from domestic to wild to weedy- all to honour the beauty and bounty of the season, and notice the shift in season from summer to the first signs of autumn. I'll get the several videos posted, then pull it all together in the blog-soon!
Enjoy the season ahead!
