Massive anti-Russian protests broke out after Russian troops occupied the town of Kherson on 5 March 2022. Thousands of people with Ukrainian flags went out to the streets facing armed Russian army, who looked confused initially, as they were certain they come to "liberate" these people. Russian security forces only managed to stop these after a month of so by gradually arresting all pro-Ukrainian people and sending them to filtration camps. The protests were embarrassing for Russians because they presented the invasion as "liberation" and the mass-scale protests didn't fit that picture. The town of Kherson was actually liberated on 11 November 2022 when Russian occupational forces were forced to retreat behind the Dnipro river, taking huge trophies, including stealing the whole Kherson museum collection.
