Igor Girkin's associate Alexander Lyubimov, who has been involved in supplying Russian fighters in Donbass since 2014 (he headed the ‘Coordination Centre for Assistance to Novorossiya’), says that the goal of Russia's war against Ukraine since 2014 was not the capture of Donbass nor some "protection of Russian-speaking people", but the complete destruction of Ukraine. He stated that he was in favour of the complete destruction of Ukrainian statehood and the destruction of all ‘bearers of Ukrainianism’ (that is, in fact, Ukrainians).
