Krasnodar Orthodox archpriest Andrei Drugai has resigned from his post, saying he opposes violence, war, occupation of foreign territories and repressions in Russia. Drugai says "if you love God, then you follow His Commandments. It's impossible to love God and not support peace. It's impossible to love God and respond to evil with evil. It's impossible to love God and kill, even 'for God's sake'. If we pray and sing that we love God but hate our neighbour, we are liars, according to the apostle of love, John the Theologian. I concur with father Andrey Kuraev, father Andrey Kordochkin and other priests and believers who oppose the war, violence and annexation of the territory of our neighbour, Ukraine. I also oppose the arrest of Aleksey Navalny and I'm outrage with his killing. Our church shouldn't engage in politics, but the church should always give moral assessment to all forms of human activities, including political activities, based on spiritual constitution, religious scripture and, most and foremost, New Testament. If church rules are formed based on political orders and church officials' statements contradict the divine word, then they should be rejected. I'm not reading during our liturgies the letters of patriarch Kirill Gundyaev as they openly violate the liturgical order and contradict the evangelical spirit of love. I consider his statements to be heretical, but one of them is an extreme: the promise of heavenly kingdom to everyone who dies in the battle, killing other people. I hereby resign from the community of RPC MP [Russian Orthodox Church Moscow Patriarchate] as it no longer represents a Christian church".
