Finnegans Wake by James Joyce Translated by Chong-Keon Kim Read by: 이상현

I read this book in honor of the great James Joyce, who wrote this immortal masterpiece of the universe beyond mankind, and the great Chong-Keon Kim, who translated it into Korean.

When I become a traveler in space, I meet an alien intelligence when I pass through a galaxy, what kind of planet is Earth? If he ask, I'll read Finnegans Wake.

Finnegans Wake becomes the language of the universe in any language you read. Professor Chong-Keon Kim Korean translation, which I am reading now, goes beyond translation and connects 8,951 kilometers between Seoul and Dublin. Korean becomes the earth's language. Early in the 20th century, born in a far and distant Ireland, Finnegans Wake extends to the Far East in my language, which I am reading today.

There are many unfamiliar words written in Finnegans Wake. Saying about 50 percent of the words were coined for James Joyce. There are also many compound words created by translators mixed with unusual old Korean, chineses letters and his own words in translations. It's almost the level of creation. Today, I felt the rhythm unconsciously during the reading. I could feel the sense of music.

January 24, 2024, is a very cold day. I can feel the winter getting deeper. How many people have read "Finnegans Wake"? The more I read, the deeper I feel. I encourage the younger generation to read this book. You will be able to feel the wonder that was born in this world. I marvel at Joyce's greatness once again. And once again, I have the highest respect in the world for the greatness of Professor Chong-Keon Kim, who translated this book into Korean
