1 September 2024 hits on Russian power and thermal plants

On the morning of 1 September 2024 Russia received a valuable lesson on the purpose of the Geneva Conventions consideration of power plants, among other, as a protected civilian infrastructure. This didn't prevent Russia from attacking Ukrainian power plants for the last two years, while Russian propaganda explicitly stated the purpose is to "freeze Ukraine to death" many times. Today's lesson is a hundred times better than countless UN and ICRC resolutions condemning Russian actions before. The Russians ignore international law for two reasons - firstly because they regard it as a manifestation of "bourgeois decay of the West", but above all because previous Western responses have convincingly proved to them that they can do so without consequence. First in Syria, then in Ukraine. At least as long the latter did not have weapons of sufficient range and the prevailing belief in the West is that the asymmetry of the conflict is the inherent right of the Russians. However, Ukraine knows how to talk to the Russians in their language and it is the only language they understand, unlike the Western language of ‘non-escalation’. Perhaps the coming winter spent in Russian cities without electricity and heating will convince the Russians that attacks to which the victim can effectively respond are net too costly.

The compilation shows videos of hits against Konakovskaya power plant (Tver oblast), Kapotnaya gas distribution plant, Kashyra power plant near Moscow and likely others. The attacks happened after a week of Russian bombing of Ukrainian power plants and residential zones, which only in Kharkiv killed 10 and wounded nearly 50 people.
